BSc Accounting and Finance – a thorough grounding in accountancy and finance within a strong social science framework, ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in accountancy.

Course Prospects

This degree is for you if you:

wish to go on to take professional accountancy qualifications. You may be able to gain exemptions from several of the examinations of professional accountancy bodies (depending on the subjects taken). We do advise you to contact the relevant bodies for advice are professionally qualified in the accountancy field and would now like to take a degree
have not yet decided which profession to pursue and are interested in the fields of accounting and finance.

Programme aims

To provide a thorough grounding in accounting and finance, within a strong social science framework.

This degree will prepare you for a career in areas of professional accountancy, investment banking, investment analysis and management, management consultancy and financial management, as well as to more advanced academic study.

Entry requirements

In order to satisfy the entrance requirements for the BSc Accounting and Finance, you must:

normally* be at least 17 years old and either have passes in:
two subjects at GCE 'A' level, plus at least three further subjects at GCSE or GCE 'O' level (at not less than grade C or above) or
three subjects at GCE 'A' level (with one 'A' level at not less than grade D) or -
three subjects at GCE 'A' level and one further subject at GCSE or GCE 'O' level (at not less than grade C) or
two subjects at GCE 'A' level, plus two further subjects at GCE 'AS' level.
AND demonstrate a level of competence in Mathematics at least equivalent to a pass at GCSE/GCE 'O' level, at not less than grade C
AND have passed GCSE/GCE 'O' level English language at grade C or above or, within the last three years, to have passed at the required standard a test of proficiency in English that is recognised by the University of London.

3 Principles of banking and finance
4 Principles of accounting
5 Economic history in the 20th century


Second Year -
6 Managerial economics or Microeconomics
7 Financial management or Corporate finance


Third Year -
8 Financial reporting
9 Auditing
10 Management accounting
11 Management Mathematics
